Five things to know before selecting an Invisalign dentist

Five things to know before selecting an Invisalign dentist

  1. Experience with Invisalign treatment is critical to the success of the treatment. Invisalign ranks dentists and orthodontists by how many cases they treat on a yearly basis. Invisalign Diamond and Diamond Plus are the most experienced.
  2. Some general dentists are quite accomplished with Invisalign treatment and some orthodontists limit their practice mainly to fixed braces. An orthodontist who specializes in Invisalign is really the best bet to find an excellent practitioner because orthodontists specialize in moving teeth.
  3. Some practices are multi-location and multi-doctor, so you may see a different practitioner each visit. Look for an orthodontist who will be present at most visits, ideally in one location.
  4. Every orthodontist has their own philosophy and mindset about whether treatment is going to be necessary. Younger and newer practitioners might be more inclined to look at the need for treatment with a biased eye, since they naturally want to build a practice by starting more cases. Longtime practitioners may be more inclined to show restraint and not feel that every treatment is necessary.
  5. No practice is immune to an unfavorable or unreasonable review, but reputable review sites like Google and Yelp can usually capture the essence of a practice in the totality of the review content. Look for online reviews that cite specific information about the nature of the treatment or doctor, as opposed to just “great experience, everyone was great” etc. And for non-orthodontists who have online reviews to search, look for recommendations that cite Invisalign treatment specifically.
