Attachments are small, tooth-colored, composite resin additions to particular teeth that allow for an aligner to better grasp a tooth in order to enhance the predictability of the movement. They are somewhat irritating at first, similar in feel to mini-braces, and they do make the aligner a little more noticeable as the light will reflect off the teeth more than off a smooth surface.
An experienced provider knows when attachments are truly necessary. Unfortunately, Invisalign will often prescribe attachments in a wanton fashion using algorithms that favor the best theoretical fit without concern for a patient’s preference. These suggestions can be overridden and at Goodman Orthodontics we will only use attachments if they are vital to the treatment’s success.
