Metallic Braces v Clear Braces

Orthodontic braces have come along way over the years in terms of technology. Before 1980, braces were exclusively metal without any decorative colors, and they completely surrounded each tooth so that the tooth essentially looked like a silver cap now metallic braces are much smaller and they can be adorned with pretty colors. The metal braces are also extremely easy to remove because the bond deal breaks as the metal.

Equally as effective are ceramic braces, which appear less noticeable, but there are some misconceptions about them. There is a myth that they turn yellow during treatment, but that is not true any longer and can be prevented. While clear braces are the choice for people who want the braces to look less shiny and apparent, in recent years patients choose to use colors around the clear ceramic brackets, which some feel makes the colors pop even more than when use around metal braces. Ceramic braces however are thicker than clear, much harder to remove, and must be used carefully on the lower teeth lest they wear down the enamel of the upper teeth.
