Many general dentists have considerable experience with Invisalign. Some of their knowledge is gained though experience, and some at courses taught by experts like myself. As an orthodontist, I am not so arrogant as to say that only specialists should ever move teeth; general dentists practice other areas of dentistry (hopefully less complicated cases) like periodontics, endodontics and oral surgery. But consider that orthodontists are specialists that limit their practice to moving and straightening teeth. Some dentists that make up my practices referral base will perform simple Invisalign cases, but many tell me that since my fees are not that much higher than their Invisalign fees, they want their patients in the best, most capable hands. Beware of some general dentists that offer routine Invisalign fees in the 3000-4000 range- they are often looking to lure patients into their office with special offers just to gain more general dentist patients.
